Hello Parents,

This week we worked on rhyming words. We read some fun rhyming books titled: Ted in the Red Bed, Big Pig on a Dig, Fat Cat on a Mat, and Ted Builds a Shed. As we read these books I asked the kids to tell me what rhyming words they heard on that page. We also worked on rhyming worksheets.

Last Thursday was FIELD DAY at the Clark School. The Preschool did participate in these fun activities!!!!!!

This week we will be learning about the BEACH!!! All the land area of the seashore. We will be reading stories and learning beach songs. We will talk about sun safety, as well. Our crafts this week will be painting a mural of what the beach looks like, creating their own sand castles, and other fun beach activities.

Next week we will be learning about the OCEAN!!! All the water areas and creatures!!

Month of MAY

Hello All,

Sorry that I have not update this month. But here is a brief over view of what we have done this month.

We started the month off with talking about our families. We drew portraits of the people in our family. We also had a Great MOTHER'S DAY TEA!!! It was GREAT to talk to all the moms, grandmothers, and aunts. Thank you for coming!!! WE HAD SUCH A FUN TIME CELEBRATING THIS DAY!!! I hope all the MOM'S had a GREAT DAY TOO!!!

The next week we read books written and illustrated by Eric Carle. We read Little Cloud, The Very Hungary Caterpillar, and Roster Sees the World. After reading these stories we made crafts and talked about clouds, caterpillars, butterflies and the different animals in the stories. With the book Little Cloud, the kids used there imaginations about what they see up in the clouds, then we made our own clouds. With the book the Very Hungary Caterpillar, we talked about how a caterpillar turns into a butterfly and we made coffee filter butterflies. With the book Rooster Sees the World, we did a math activity, adding the animals as they join in on the adventure, and subtracted as the animals left to go home.

Last week we read stories written by Dr. Seuss. We had a lot of fun with these stories. We read Go, Dog, Go; The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, Horton Hears a Who, If I Ran the Zoo, and The Lax and Other Stories. We made hats just like the cats from the book, we ate green eggs and ham for snack, we watched Horton Hears a Who, and we made funny animals that would be in our zoo.

Last week we also said GOOD-BYE to 2 of our friends KEVIN and KATRINA. We hope they have a great summer. For their special day we had s'mores for snack and wore our PJ's to school.

This week we are learning about different sports games. We will be playing Soccer and Basketball outside. We will also be doing a lot of work from the website TRUE-LEARNING.COM.

Sarah and I have also switched to the teacher summer schedule. Kalynn will be working every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Sarah will be working every Thursday and Friday.

REMINDER: WE WILL NOT HAVE SCHOOL ON MONDAY MAY 31st. Due to MEMORIAL DAY!!!

Hello Parents:

This week we learned about plants and how they grow. We talked about what you see in gardens and what you can plant. On Tuesday, we planted green beans, we will be observing their growth for the rest of the school year. We have also have been leaning about insects. We talked about the different bugs we see in our own yards. For our craft we created our own bugs. The kids had a lot of fun making these. We tied learning about bugs and learning about plants together by figuring out that bugs help plants grow. The kids thought this was really cool.

Today we went to Monkey Joe's with Groups 1&2. The kids had a BLAST!!!! They jumped around from one jumping area to another. We stayed for an hour and a half.

Next week we will be learning about family. We will be reading books, learning songs, and creating family portraits.

REMINDER: FRIDAY MAY 7TH WE WILL BE HAVING A MOTHER'S DAY TEA FROM 8-10. FEEL FREE TO EXTEND THE INVITATION TO GRANDMOTHERS, AUNTS, OR A SPECIAL FEMALE FRIEND.

Also Happy MAY DAY tomorrow and the big Horse Race...KENTUCKY DERBY.

Hello All,

This week we talked about SPRING. We are noticing the changes that are happening outside. On Monday we played I SPY SPRINGTIME! The kids had to spy something that they noticed was starting to change and things up in the sky. On Tuesday we talked about mixing colors and how their are different shades of color. The kids had the opportunity to create their own colors. On Wednesday enjoyed the BEAUTIFUL WEATHER and PLAYED OUTSIDE!!! On Thursday we took our knowledge of the spring time and colors and started to create a Spring Time Picture. We will be finishing this picture up today. Due to the rain we will not be going on our nature walk.

Next week we will be talking about RAINBOWS, the colors and shape of a rainbow and how they are created. We will look for rainbows in our water and through glass. The kids will be painting with different colors and a fun scented picture they will create. We will also create a fun rainbow snack on Friday.

Hello,

This week we learned about the Post Office. We looked a pictures from the book A Visit to the Post Office. The kids told us what they thought a post office was. On Monday, we talked about rain clouds, rain, and rainbows. We read the book Rainy Day, which explains what happens when it is going to rain. On Tuesday, the kids made their own Postage Stamp. On Thursday, we talked more about Spring time and what changes we see. After discussing this we drew pictures of SPRING TIME. Please look for them when you enter the classroom. Today we traced our addresses and mailed letters to ourselves. We also played Post Office; the kids got to be either the postal worker or the person sending a letter, they had to "buy" a stamp to put on their letter, then hand them to the postal worker. The postal worker had to sort the mail in to piles, colors of the stamps, then they had to deliver the mail to their friends cubbies. They had a lot of fun doing this. With the rainy days we were not able to go outside as much as we would like too so we had inside play playing hide n' seek and doing a lot of art projects.

Next week we will be learning about Firefighters. We will talk about what they do and read books about them.

We also had a Birthday this week. HAPPY BIRTHDAY CYUBA!!!!!!!

Hello All,

This week we learned about Police Officers. We talked about what they do, how they protect us, and what they wear. We also looked at pictures of police officers and read about them. We learned two new songs this week about police officers and community helpers. We made police vest, hats, and a badge.

We also worked on writing our names and mixing colors. How do you make Purple, Orange, or Green????

We will be learning about Leprechauns and St. Patrick's Day next week. Also, we will be learning about SPRING!!!!

The first day of SPRING is Saturday March 20!!! YEAH!!!!!

Don't forget that we change the clocks, SPRING FORWARD, Saturday night.

Welcome March.

This month we will be learning about our COMMUNITY.

This week we will work on letters and numbers. We will work on worksheet that help us identify the beginning sound of words and what letters make that sound. We will also be practicing writing our names.

For Community we will be finding out what each child feels a community is. We will also be painting a mural on what a community looks like. Please look for them in the classroom. We will be reading stories about communities and learning new songs, too.

In weeks to come we will talk about different jobs people have in our community. We will also be learning and doing fun activities for St. Patrick's Day and SPRING!!! Yes, SPRING is only 18 days away!!!! YEAH!!!!

Last, Friday we traced the kids bodies and had them draw/color themselves. They are hanging up on the walls of the classroom, check them out.

Good Afternoon All,

This week we will be finding out where a snowball will last the longest. Is it outside, inside, or in the freezer??? The kids will make a prediction first, then we will collect snow in baby food jars and put them in these three places, checking to see how they are doing through out the day. We will also be experimenting how it feels to write in different textures (i.e. sand, shaving cream, water, paint) with their fingers.

We will be working on cutting, math, and writing our names! !

This morning we got to visit our friends and Group 1 and work in the Group 3 room!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a lot of fun. The kids got to do math with the Group 1 students, we had snack and colored in the Group 3 room, and then had lunch with Group 1!! THANK YOU GROUP 1, 2, and 3 for letting us come and visit!!!

We played out side today at the big playground. The kids have been working on building snowman and other things in the field out front.

Hello,

I hope you all had a great long weekend!!!!!

Today we are making predictions and testing to see if we were right or not. We are seeing which objects from around the classroom will sink or float in a tub of water. We made a chart of the object that we will be using and what the kids prediction is. Please look for it on the bulletin board as you enter the room.

We are also working on a song about the 12 Months in the Year. It is sung to the tune of "10 Little Indians":
January, February, March and April
May, June, July and August
September, October, November, December
12 months and a year.

This week during Kindergarten Time we will be working on Letters and what sounds they make. We are also working on numbers recognizing them and putting them in order (1-10). We are also working on writing our names on our own.

Our next experiment is how to make play dough!!! We will be learning the ingredients that goes into the mix and find out how we can make the play dough colorful and smell good.

What we have been learning about this month:

We learned how to keep our germs to ourselves and how to not spread them to other friends. We talked about:
COVERING OUR COUGHS: you should cough into your elbow.
WASHING YOUR HANDS: you should wash your hands before and after you eat, after you go to the bathroom, and if you cough in your hands. Children should sing the ABC's while they wash their hands.

We also had a Vitamin C snack and talked about how Vitamin C helps us fight the germs.

We are also starting to learn about the Holiday Celebrations that happen during the month of December. We painted and decorated a Christmas Tree and painted a Menorah. We talked about patterns for our math lesson, and created Holiday Chains, using red and green. We have been learning different Holiday songs (which we will be learning all this month).

NEXT WEEK we will be learning about HANUKKAH!!! This is an eight day and eight night celebration for the Jewish Religion. We will talk about the Menorah, Star of David, the Dreidel, and the colors of the Holiday. We will be reading different Hanukkah books, and learning Hanukkah songs. HAPPY HANUKKAH!!!!!!!

In weeks to come we will be learning about the CHRISTMAS celebration. We will be making fun crafts, reading Christmas stories, and learning Christmas songs. Then we will be learning about the KWANZAA celebration making crafts, reading stories, and singing songs. Finally, we will celebrate NEW YEAR'S!!!

REMINDERS: The Clark School Holiday Party is Friday, December 18 at 1:30pm. Children will need a chaperon to attend.

We will be closing at NOON on Thursday, December 24. (Christmas Eve)

We will be closing at NOON on Thursday, December 31. (New Year's Eve)

HANUKKAH starts at sundown tonight.

THIS WEEK

We learned about Carnivores this week. We talked about how they just eat meat and we brainstormed about other animals that just eat meat. The kids did a great job. We also learned a Dinosaur song and movements that go with it.
The Dinosaurs lived long ago
and walked like this and that (walk heavy)
Some were large (stretch arms out)
And some were small (squat down)
some liked water (swimming motion)
And some liked land (stomp you feet)
Some had wings that flapped and flapped (flap your arms)
Some had necks that stretched and stretched (raise your arms above your head)
The meanest, rudest one of all was the ferocious Tyrannosaurus Rex
There were the Dinosaurs of long ago
Goodness gracious!! Where did they go?

We worked on the letter E this week. We would like to THANK
Ben for bringing in an Elephant and an Eyeball.
The whole class for showing me there Elbows, Ears, and Eyes. Also we found the Exit signs in the classroom.

We worked in our Math books finding things that were smaller, larger, taller, and shorter.

NEXT WEEK

We will be learning about Omnivores. We will be reading stories and making fun crafts. We also will be doing more Math and Letter work.

We are working on the letter F this week. F is for FOOTBALL!!

FYI: Preschool will be CLOSING at NOON time WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 25, 2009 and we will be CLOSED THURSDAY NOVEMBER 26 and FRIDAY NOVEMBER 27.

THIS WEEK

We started learning about Dinosaurs this week. We talked about Herbivores: plant eater. We also brainstormed on other animals that just eat plants. Also we learned about the Dinosaur habitat; muddy, big leaves, trees, and the colors brown, green, and blue. After talking about what the habitat looked like we painted a mural. Also we painted a big dinosaur. We have been reading a lot of stories about Dinosaurs, too.

We made Halloween crafts and read Halloween stories. We made witches hats and a 5 Little Pumpkin theme. We worked in our workbooks and did worksheets.

We will be learning about Dinosaurs this month. We will be separating the weeks into herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. We will be learning about Carnivores this week. We will have books, figurines and different facts about these creatures.

THIS WEEK

We learned about pumpkins. We talked about what shape and color pumpkins are, we made a fall farm picture, we went pumpkin picking at Connor's Farm, measured how big our pumpkins were around, and painted our pumpkins. Today we cut our classroom pumpkin open to see what was inside. We asked the kids what color they thought a pumpkin was inside, the responses were: Yellow (Ronin), Blue ( Cyuba), Green ( Kaylee), and Red (Keelin). Then we asked the kids what the inside looked like and they all responded a JELLYFISH. Each of the kids got a chance to help take the mush and seeds out of the pumpkin. Then we made a Jack-O-Lantern!!

THIS WEEK

We are learning about FALL this month. This week we talked about APPLES. We talked about what colors apples are, where they grow, and how they taste. We painted and cut out apples and made apple stamps. Check out the Library area!! We also made applesauce on Friday for snack. YUMM!!! This being the month of Halloween, we are going to talk about different animals, people, or things that the kids may see. This week we talked about Spiders and Bats. We are in the process of making crafts to hang on the wall. So keep and eye out for them. We also worked in our work books this week.

Hello,

Last Week we learned about land vehicles like cars, trucks, tractors, and construction vehicles. The kids had a lot of fun with this. They painted a cab of a truck with wheels and a smoke stack, check it out in circle area! We made a list of different kinds of truck there are and that we've seen.

We worked on the letter W. W is for Walk. We would like to THANK:

Kevin for bringing in Wheels and a train with Washington, D.C. on it.
Cyuba for wearing a shirt with the White House on in and Washington, D.C.

This Week

We learned about boats; speed boats, tug boats, ferry boats, and cruise liners. We had fun comparing the different sizes the boats were.

We said GOOD BYE SUMMER and HELLO FALL. We talked about the new season and what changes happen in Fall. Some of the changes we talked about were that it will get cooler outside, the leaves change colors like; orange, red, yellow, and brown, and how you have to rake the leaves and JUMP IN THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We made new name tags for the door. Please check them out!!!!

We worked on the letter X this week. X is for X-ray. We would like to THANK:

Next Week

We will be learning about TRAINS!!! Steam engines, freight trains, and bullet trains. We will be working on the letter Y. Y is for Yak.

We will also be going APPLE PICKING at Connors Farm on WEDNESDAY the 30th at 9:30a.m. If do not attend Wednesdays please feel free to join us for this. You can meet us at the school and we will walk over as a class. Parents if you are interested in joining us too please do.

On Monday we will be having a new friend join our class. Her name is Kaylee. Please say Hi and Welcome to our class if you see her.

THIS WEEK
This was welcome back week for all the students at the Clark School!! We would like to welcome back from their summer break Cyuba and Remy!!!!

We learned all about airplanes, helicopters, blimps, and air balloons. Crafts we made were paper airplanes, an air transportation mural , and helicopters. Please look around the classroom for these projects. The kids had a lot of fun making these things.

We worked on the letter V this week. V is for Vehicle. We would like to THANK:
Kevin for bringing in a Volkswagen car and a Vehicle.
Ronin for telling us about Venom from Spider man.

NEXT WEEK
We will be learning about Cars. We will talk about race cars, 18 wheeler trucks, and tractors. We have a lot of fun project planned. We will also start having a time during the day called Kindergarten Time were the kids have academic work to do. We work on Math, Letters, and Motor Skills.

We learned about the stars this week. We made a star night scene and made Twinkle Stars. We learned the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.

We also have 4 students moving on to Kindergarten in the next week. Today we had a Graduation ceremony for them. For the students who are staying in Preschool for next year had an award ceremony, too. I would like to THANK ALL the KIDS for a GREAT JOB!!!! I am so proud of you!!! I would also like to THANK all the family and friends that came to the ceremony.

Today is Ethan's last day of Preschool, he will be going to Kindergarten in the next week. WE WISH HIM LUCK!!!!!!!

NEXT WEEK

We will be having saying good bye to Alexander whose last day is Tuesday Sept. 1. We will also be saying good bye to Cate and Davidson whose last day is Thursday Sept. 3. WE WISH THEM LUCK in KINDERGARTEN!!!!!!

Welcome the new month! This summer is flying by!

THIS MONTH we will be learning about Outer Space!!

THIS WEEK

We went to the MOON!!!! We talked about what the moon looks like and how it is shaped. We painted the moon and made astronauts with our pictures in them. We learned two new songs this week Astronaut Song and Aikendrum. We made Aikendrums, too. We also learned about the phases of the moon and marble painted them. Miss Sarah read us a story about the moon. We watched a space shuttle take off and land!

We went on vacation to the Jungle. We talked about what the jungle looks like and what animals and plants you may see there. We painted a Jungle Mural, when you come in check it out on the Block wall. We made binoculars and went on a safari.

THIS WEEK

We went on "vacation" to the Islands. We talked about what an Island is. Then we painted a Island Mural. (look for it on the wall in kitchen area) All the children get to pick something they would like to paint on the mural. Today our special snack was Tropical Fruit: Bananas, Pineapple, Mango, and Coconut. We guessed what the fruit was, talked about what color it was, if it was hard or soft, and what it smelt like. The kids had a lot of fun with this snack.

We worked on shape and letter recognition a lot this week. We also used the website: www.pbskids.org/wordworld this is a Great website for the kids. They are asked to find letters by sound recognition, spell words, and help the characters find certain words. They had a lot of fun with this.

We also learned about Sailing this week. We talked about what the kids thought sailing was. Most thought it was like camping on the water. We made a sailing mural and hung it up on the circle area wall. We talked about different types of maps. (Thank you Ronin for bringing in your Storyland map for us to look at.) Then we made Treasure Maps.

Our Special Snack this week was Ocean in a cup. We crushed up graham cracker for sand, made blue jello for the water, and put whipped cream on top for the crashing waves. The kids had a lot of fun making this snack and more fun EATING IT!!!!

We got to play outside a lot this week.

NEXT WEEK
We will be working on the letter O. O is for Octopus.

We also will be "travling" to an Island. We will be finding out what an Island looks like and why it is called an Island. We will be hunting for buried treasure. Listening to diffent Island music and learning how to Hula. Friday we will be having Tropical Fruit.

I hope you all had a GREAT 4Th of July!!! I also hope everyone enjoyed the gorgeous weekend!!!!

THIS WEEK
We learned about camping. We made a list of what we thought camping was. During Circle Time we created a Camping Story and illustrated it. You can look for the story and pictures on the bulletin bored. Also look for what the kids thought camping was. We made a mural of a camping scene, all the kids decided what they were going to paint. They did a GREAT JOB!! On Friday we made a tent and had s'mores during snack time. YUMMMM!!!

This week we worked on the letter M. M is for Mural.

During Kindergarten time we have been working on finding our shapes, writing our names, and writing our numbers.

NEXT WEEK
We will be learning about Sailing during this week. We will be making a list of what the kids think sailing is and what a boat looks like. We will be painting a sailing mural. We will be learning sailing songs. We will be having a lot of FUN!!!

The weather is suppose to be GREAT this week. So we will be enjoying it a lot.

THIS WEEK

This week we learned about fish and other sea creatures. We made a sea creature collage, fish aquariums, and rainbow fish. We read the book Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. We sang "I'm a little fishy"

THIS WEEK

This past week we have been continuing to learn about the ocean and underwater creatures. We made an octupus craft, sang ocean songs, drew pictures of the sea, and talked about the kinds of creatures that live under the water.

We worked on the letter I and preschool friends showed their "I" items. This week we will be bringing in "J" items for show and tell. Thanks to everyone who brought in things to show!

Although it was a rainy week we also got outside for some time to run around and draw with chalk when we could. We will continue to try and get some exercise every day whether we are inside or out! Just a reminder, as the weather gets hotter please leave a swimsuit, water shows, towel, and change of clothes at school because when it gets hot enough we will be using sprinklers and water play outside.

Friday was Cate's last day for a month but we will see her after her vacation :)

Miss Kalynn is still away but we can not wait to have her back on Thursday!

NEXT WEEK

We will be working on Letter J.

We will be making Fathers day gifts and continuing to learn about the ocean.

We are learning about the Ocean this month.

THIS WEEK

We are learning about different sea shells. We had a bucket of shells in the classroom with a magnifiying glass. The kids were able to feel the different textures of the shells, compare the sizes, tell if the shell was a snail shell or a clam shell, and see the different colors. We used clay to make shell imprints, made shell rubbings and traced shells, and we painted jumbo pasta shells to create our own sea shell.

NEXT WEEK

We will be working on the Letter I. I is for Ice cream. We will also be learning about Underwater. We will be making an underwater mural, ocean in a bottle, sponge painting and an octopus craft.

REMINDERS:

We are still having Pizza Friday this summer. Look for the pizza slip in your child's lunch box on Wednesdays.

Miss Kalynn will be on vacation June 9-17. Miss Sarah and Miss Laura will be in the classroom.

Monday June 8 will be Yan's last day of preschool. Him and his family are moving to Lexington, MA.

Good Afternoon Parents,
The summer season is approaching. With this comes the hot weather. This summer the Clark Preschool will have water play, which includes water tables and sprinklers. We would like you to send your child with an extra pair of clothes, a swimsuit, and a towel that can stay at the school for the week. Also, not required but preferred is a pair of water shoes or shoes that can get wet while the children are playing in the sprinklers.

THIS WEEK

This week we worked on the letter E. I would like to THANK:
Cate for bringing in an Elephant.
Davidson for bringing in the number Eight and the word Engine.
Ethan for bringing in himself, the E block, and the E shape with an Elephant picture.

We also found talked about flying bugs.
Monday we planted our green beans in a flower pot and put it next to our classroom.

Tuesday we made bumblebees and read There was an Old Lady that Swallowed a Fly Guy. The kids thought this was a very funny story.

Wednesday we went on our hayride around Connor's Farm. We got to see the strawberry plants, raspberry bushes, and the apple trees. We also saw ducklings and swans in the pound. Group 1 and 2 got to join us on the hayride, too.

Thursday we made bee hives and bees.

Friday we did ladybug math.

NEXT WEEK

We will be continuing with the letter of the week. F is for Frog.

We will also be learning about spiders.

This Week

This week we learned about caterpillars. We made a Life Cycle of a Caterpillar poster. We read The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. We talked about his art technique and created our own very hungry caterpillar. We went on a worm hunt and only found one worm. We also had picture day today.

NEXT WEEK

We will be learning about flying bugs like flies, bees, and ladybugs. The Hay Ride at Conner's Farm was postponed until Wednesday May 13, 2009. We will be leaving the school around 9:00 a.m. We will also be having a Mother's Day Tea in the classroom from 8:00 a.m.- 10:00 a.m.

We will be working on the letter E this week.

This week

This week we turned the classroom into a farm. We read the book Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown. Blocks was turned into a barn, library was turned into a animal hospital, circle area was turned into a pig pen, floor toys was turned into a science area, and dramatic play was turned into a country kitchen. On Monday, Keira's dad came in and talked to us about life on a farm in Ireland. On Wednesday, Davidson's mom came in and talked to us about life on a farm and brought in chicks. We made tractor art and cow puppets. We also decorated bandannas. At snack time the kids got to pick the kind of farm snack they would like to eat at the country store.

Next week (May 4-8)

We are going to learn about bugs this month. We will be learning about caterpillars and worms the first week of May. We will be learning about the life cycle of a caterpillar. Later in the week we will be going on a worm hunt.

We will be starting up letter of the week again. D is for Dragon Fly.

Picture day will be on Tuesday May 5, 2009 in the morning. (The rain date will be Friday May 8, 2009)

This week we are learning about different animals that live on a farm. On Tuesday we made pig noses and puppets. Then we made cow masks and sheep puppets. We also planted our green beans. We made our C page for our alphabet book.

NEXT WEEK
Miss Laura will be taking over the class for a week. She will transform the classroom into a farm.

Last Week

We learned about the life cycle of a plant. We planted green bean seeds and hung them up in the window. We also predicted how long it would take for them to grow. We are going to keep a close eye on them and hopefully see some change soon.

For the Easter Holiday we made Easter Bunny magnets and faces. We painted our feet white to make the ears to our bunny. On Friday, we had an Easter egg hunt outside on the playground!! We also died eggs and made ribbon baskets.

This Week

We are learning about barns. We will find out what colors and shapes they are and what lives in a barn. Later in the week we will build a barn in our classroom!

We are also working on the letter B this week. The kids are still invited to bring in items that start with this letter. We will be making alphabet pages to create their own alphabet book!

Next Week

We will be learning about farm animals. We will be making masks, puppets, and a farm scene. We will also be working on the letter C.
